Here’s a (hopefully) short story about the song:
While in a therapy session, I started to get missed calls and texts from Sara Beth saying “where are you?? are you ok??” I told here everything was fine, I was at therapy, to which she responded “IT’S BEEN THREE HOURS!!”. Ooops. And what a fun three hours it had been.. The best, really. For those of you who don’t know, Sara Beth is a therapist for her day job. When I got home she said, “Babe I’m a little concerned, that’s not very good boundaries of him…” OOF. It was devastating. For me, the three hour session was proof that George and I were friends, which I think is every patient’s dream to be IRL friends with their therapist. So, to watch that dream unravel was a punch in the gut. Fortunately, it was also good song material. Still a win, right?

2 cool things:
– 1.) I wrote and recorded it shortly after the 2024 Folk Alliance International conference, where I met Remi Goode and Gabe Leher. As I was writing it, I thought that they would sound nice on the track, and took a deep breath and did the scary thing of reaching out to them to ask, despite only knowing them for a few days. To my surprise, they said yes, I said wow. Since then they have become very close friends. Mission accomplished. They just finished up a beautiful album and I hope you’ll check out her stuff. Link for that is in the credits below.
– 2.) I recently did another scary thing and submitted the song to the Rocky Mountain Songwriting Contest in Red Lodge Montana. It was selected as a top 20 finalist, and I got to perform it in front of an audience of around 200 people? 300? But the coolest part was, Remi Goode who sings on the song was also a finalist for her song Typecast, and (Borat voice) my wife Sara Beth Go who is mentioned by name in the song was also a finalist. It was meant to be.

In conclusion:
The past few years we have seen society shift more and more online, and speaking for myself, while I crave community more than ever, it’s also somehow harder to leave the house and engage with community. I’m working on it. If you’re reading this, I hope you know how deeply grateful to be in community with you. Having you here means the world, not just to me, but also, I think it means the world to the world. It’s a vote for a more sincere society. Thanks from the bottom of my often fragile heart.
Sincerely,Nathan
